Kidmans Camp was established
in 1998 by current owners Peter and Tracey Simmonds,
Peter a former Australian Champion Bronc Rider and builder
and Tracey who is also a competitive rodeo rider grew
up in Bourke and have lived in the region most
of their lives.
Peter and Tracey saw the tourism industry
as one that was growing and in the mid 1990’s set
about the development of what was to become Kidmans
Camp. Peter, with his building background laid
out the plans for a Caravan and Cabin park that would
ultimately have the
capacity of 500 guests. Bourke locals could not believe such an ambitious plan and some scoffed at the suggestion.
The land at North Bourke was
selected for its open space, the ability to expand and
its proximity to the river, which would ultimately become
one of Bourke's greatest assets. Peter and Tracey
immediately developed the toilet and shower block, 8
cabins and 20 powered sites. Much of the landscaping
was laid out and this first stage was completed by Christmas
1998.
During the next 6 years the Simmonds family has expanded to 5, along the way the Caravan and Cabin Park has also expanded to be one of Australia’s premier inland Parks and is operated by Peter, Tracey, Kayla, Clay and Sally Simmonds. |
